The nursery is located at 2140 Chase Drive, Rancho Cordova. Key Activities

Mini Workdays

Mini Workdays make a big impact in just a few hours. Our Mini Workdays continue on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon. If you would like to join us, please stop by! No sign-up is needed. Please park in the Soil Born parking lot and walk over to the nursery . We have Volunteer Orientation once a month. You do not need to attend prior to volunteering. When you drop in, ask for the "Boss Robin" and she will pair you with a seasoned volunteer for the day.

Demonstration Gardens

SacValley CNPS Demonstration Gardens - gardens showcasing different approaches to native plants are being developed. They are: Butterfly Waystation; Traditional Resources; Willows for Wildlife; Hand water & Volunteer Plant Dry Area; Under Oaks; HOA friendly; Container Gardening; Robin’s Front Yard; Bee Friendly Garden; and Shade Garden. Our next hope is to capture and share information such as: the time it takes to maintain each garden, the amount of water the garden gets and the wildlife we have observed. (See links to more information about the gardens and a slideshow of the plants at the top of the page.)

Pot Reuse, Bring us your pots!

We love native plants because they bring us closer to nature. So, rather than adding more plastic to the environment, we reuse one-gallon pots. You can help our plant propagation work by bringing your one-gallon pots to the Nursery or Plant Sales. Whether it's 1 pot or 100, we want them. We prepare the pots by brushing them out, then sterilize them in the solarizer (see photo). You can help us with that first step by brushing your pots, using a bottle brush or dish brush. We use over 4,000 1-gallon pots a year in our nursery or our Home Growers for Social Justice program. If your group wants to host a Pot Washing Party, contact Chris at cnpschris@gmail.com

Nursery and Demonstration Gardens Tours

We offer community members guided tours of our nursery and demonstration gardens. The tours are approximately 1 hour. These tours provide information about the importance of using native plants in landscapes to create habitat for animals, saving water, and increasing pollination. If you would like a tour for your group (club, friends, neighbors), please contact Chris at cnpschris@gmail.com

Nursery Maintenance

Sometimes we need the help of carpenters, electricians, fence builders, irrigation “magicians,” and other handy people. Drop in on a Wednesday to visit us and let us know how you could help! Or email Chris at cnpschris@gmail.com
