Shepard Garden & Arts Center 3330 McKinley Blvd. Sacramento, CA 95816 

Our California native plant seed swap will be held again at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center.  Sacramento Valley CNPS chapter members will be available to answer questions about seed harvest and propagation. October is also a good time for semi-hardwood cuttings for many species. Cuttings will also be welcome. If you have seeds to share please bring them but if you don’t there will be plenty for everyone. See labeling instructions below. Should be a fun event on Halloween.

Seed Sowing Demo 11:30 to 1:30- The NATIVE PLANT PROPAGATION at HOME group will be sharing seed sowing tips, starter pots, soil and wildflower seeds! We will introduce you to the joys of growing your own plants from seeds and provide information from the CNPS Sac Valley Chapter, Native Plant Propagation at Home webpage. Seed labels: Common name, Scientific name, date collected, source and provenance if known

Example: California poppy, Eschscholzia californica, Collected 5/15/2026
Source- SVCNPS Nursery Demo garden, provenance (original geographic collection source) Sacramento County
Propagation info would be an added bonus!

Cuttings: Cuttings will ideally be collected the morning of the swap, kept cool, moist, and labeled. 

Seeds are intended for and from home gardens.
