Summary
This study repeats an overstory and understory survey of 37 restored and 41 reference forest sites along a 100-km span of the Sacramento River, California, to evaluate whether these forests are similar 25-32 years after planting. We found that restored forests’ overstory had similar basal area and stem density to reference forest, but from largely different native species. Additionally, restored forest understories have considerably changed between surveys, replacing grassier exotic species for Rubus armeniacus, but remain different from reference forests.
