What is floodplain restoration and why is important? 
River Partners performs floodplain restoration on a large scale, planting thousands of native plants every year. As only 5% of California’s riverside habitat remains, our work has multiple ecological benefits of not only increasing wildlife habitat but creating healthier communities, such as the floods this winter showcasing the importance of healthy floodplains to increase flood safety. In addition to ecological benefits, I’ll also discuss the venture of Heritage Growers, a new native seed and plant supply company, which supports our focus on local ecotypes, as well as highlight our flagship project Dos Rios Ranch, which will be the newest State Park, and its Native Use Garden.
Dr. Sarah Gaffney is a Restoration Ecologist for River Partners. 
She is a plant community ecologist who specialized in native California grasslands for her graduate work at UC Davis. At River Partners, she helps plan, implement, and monitor floodplain restoration projects in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys.
