SUMMARY:Mississippi Bar West, Folsom SRA
DESCRIPTION:Waiver and Sign-up required.\nYou MUST sign an Electronic Liability Waiver in advance for Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks. This is a permanent change required by CNPS statewide. Note that this Waiver is for Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks only and does not cover Sacramento Valley CNPS Field Trips nor any Events or Field Trips offered by other CNPS Chapters. The only difference with the Sacramento Valley CNPS Friday Walks Liability Waiver is that once signed it is valid through the end of the current calendar year.  Email John Schmidt to receive a Waiver form.\nFor now the Friday Walks will also have a limit on the number of participants. Initially the limit is 20 attendees plus 1 leader.\nWalks held unless heavy rain, extreme heat or very poor air quality are forecast. Cancellation notices posted by 7PM Thursday evening.\n\n\nFriday, August 23, 8:15am-11:15am, Mississippi Bar West, Folsom SRA\nNote: If this is your first Friday Walk in 2024 read the Waiver and Sign-up section at the top of the Friday Walks page.\nMississippi Bar is on the north side of Lake Natoma. Today we’ll explore the western flattish section of this bar which contains a number of ponds and temporary shallow pool areas. Most of the trails in this area are used by horses but there might be sections with river cobble footing. While oaks and cottonwoods offer some shady sections most of the walk will be sunny. Native plants bloom include Eriogonum gracile, Holocarpha virgata, Madia elegans, Phyla nodiflora var. rosa, Pseudognaphalium beneolens and Trichostema lanceolatum.  We’ll head west along old Main St then head back east along parts of the bike path and horse trails and finally wander back a large open area which contains some shallow ponds that host some plants found more in vernal pools and end near the parking area. For more information email John Schmidt or cell phone 916-500-8456.\nBring water, sunscreen, snack, an extra and hat.  The forecast is for a cool early morning and and maybe even a little rain.\nThere are rest facilities near the meeting area.\nParking is free.\nMeet at the Snowberry Trail Equestrian Staging Area just west of the Shadow Glen Riding Stables at Main and Sunset in Orangevale.  Google maps refers to this as the Snowberry Creek Assembly Area.\nUse the directions below or at the teardrop on the map.\nDriving directions to Snowberry Trail Equestrian Staging area from Sacramento:\n– Travel east on Highway 50 to Hazel Ave exit 21\n– North on Hazel Avenue\n– East on Sunset Avenue, 4th traffic light after Hazel Ave Bridge\n– Follow Sunset Ave east past Phoenix Park and down an oak-lined hill\n– At the bottom of the hill the road turns left and becomes Main Ave.\n– Continue on Main Ave about 200 yards until you see the Shadow Glen Riding Stable on your right.\n– Turn right here and then immediately to your right will be the entrance to the Snowberry Trail Equestrian Staging Area.\nPlease try to be on time.  We’ll start walking at 8:30am.\n \n \n
